Project Overview
Using Adobe Illustrator, I created high-quality vector illustrations depicting the tale of the Ebony Horse from the book One Thousand and One Nights. Presented below are the designs of the Jack, Joker, King, Queen and Ace, as well as a numbered card. I’ve designed a warm set of diamonds and a cold set of spades using complementary colours.
Illustration Process
I created original character designs for Prince Firouz & the Princess of Bengal, while the concepts of the Sultan, the Indian, and the Ebony Horse were based on reference images.
The colour palettes were selected from the artwork titled “Princess and the Parrot” by the British illustrator Warwick Goblewhich which was included in the 1912 edition of the book Folk-Tales of Bengal.
